(Cloverdale Funeral Home-n argitara emana)
Thomas Mitchell Aucutt, age 83, passed peacefully August 29, 2023 at home in the presence of his family and Emma, his 18 year-old cat.
Tom was born September 29, 1939 in Emmett Idaho. His parents, Darrell Aucutt and Cecilia Marie (Dolly) Sliman Aucutt maintained a loving and nurturing home. Tom’s mother, born in Wyoming, was of Lebanese/Syrian descent. Tom’s father, one of 11 brothers, was born in Missouri and was of Welsh/English descent. Tom was raised in a home filled with love, integrity, and an appreciation for high-quality hard work.
Growing up, Tom and his brother Gerrald (Jerry) Aucutt lived in Emmett Idaho, Ola Idaho, and San Rafael, California. Tom had many wonderful childhood memories, especially of winters in Ola.
Always a scholar, Tom was known for his intellectual curiosity and incisive humor. Tom earned a B.A. degree in History from the University of Idaho and an M.A. degree in History from the University of Oregon. He taught History and Humanities at Borah High School in Boise, Idaho and Caldwell High School in Caldwell, Idaho. He went on to serve as the Director of the Boise City Model Cities program, which grew into the City Department of Community Development. He then worked as a technical writer, with an emphasis in water quality, at the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality until his retirement in 2011.
Evidenced by his immense and diverse book collection, Tom was a perpetual student of life. He especially loved learning about the Basque, Lebanese, Syrian, Greek and Welsh countries, their cultural development, music, dance, cooking traditions and languages. Tom also enjoyed gardening. He was particularly fond of growing tulips, herbs and txorixero peppers.
Tom is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Catherine (Mary K) Jones Aucutt and their two sons, Eric Stephen Aucutt and Sean Mikel Aucutt, as well as his brother Jerry Aucutt, Jerry’s wife Verna, Jerry’s children, as well as numerous cousins.
