Maria Obieta, of Jordan Valley, Oregon, passed away in Nampa, Idaho August 21, 2017. Maria was born May 22, 1928 to Jose and Justa Arando in Ea, Bizkaia, Spain. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as three sisters (two of which died in infancy before Maria was born), and two brothers, all of Spain. She is survived by her daughter Rosa Maria Lowry and her husband Tim of Jordan Valley, grandchildren Miren Lowry of Marsing, Idaho, Amaya O’Connor and her husband Jim of Pinedale, Wyoming and Luke Lowry of Jordan Valley and seven greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Benita Oñederra of Gernika, Spain, Flora Arando of Bilbao, Spain, brother Felix Arando of Lekeitio, Spain and numerous nieces and nephews both here and in Spain.
Maria married Donato Obieta in 1948 and immigrated to the United States in 1961. Donato worked for the Lequerica brothers in Arock, Oregon and Maria was a homemaker as well as the janitor for the Arock School for 25 years. She took great pride in her work and the school was always spotlessly clean. She was a treasured member of the community and beloved by the teachers and students. Maria was an active and involved member of Holy Family and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. She was a loyal and devoted wife and mother and a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Maria was an excellent gardener and a fantastic cook. She was also a pretty good shot with a .22 (by necessity) in order to keep the critters away from her garden and kitties.
Maria lived a life of tireless service to her family and to her God and now she rests peacefully in Heaven.
Services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at St. Bernard’s in Jordan Valley. The Holy Rosary will begin at 10:00 and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00. Condolences can be given at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com
