(Queen of Heaven Mortuary-n argitara emana)

Louis Garispe, age 95, passed away on Monday September 30, 2024, at home with his family by his side.

Born on June 13, 1929, in Macaye, France, to Tristan Garispe & Catherine Garispe (nee Darbourre). Louis was the second child of eleven; nine boys and two girls.

He immigrated to the United States and became a US Citizen on February 14, 1958. One of his greatest pleasures in life, and one that we heard of often was when he sponsored his brothers and sister to join him in the United States. This sense of accomplishment made him so proud.

Upon arriving to the United States Louis secured a job in Bakersfield CA as a Sheepherder. He often spoke of this job and shared with us how lonely he was during this two-year period.

He went on to become a wood worker/cabinet maker. He was a perfectionist when it came to this trade, and always had something to say about a piece of furniture or a cabinet. Bottom line it was never good enough!

On April 19, 1958, he married the love of his life, Marie Sallagoity, whom he said was love at first sight. They were married for 41 years, until her death in 1999.

On October 18, 1958, their one and only son was born, Pierre Bernard. He was the shining star, the apple of their eye, their everything!

In 1966 he and his wife, Marie, opened a French restaurant in West Covina, CA which was named, La Biarritz. This is where he spent the next 25 years.

He was an active Basco in Southern CA. Playing MUS and frequenting his favorite local restaurant Centro Basco. It was a local meeting place for him and friends and family.

Anyone who knew Louis loved him and respected him as he was always such a pleasant person to be around. He always had a smile on his face. There aren’t really enough words to describe all of his positive attributes.

He was a devout Catholic attending mass every Sunday in suit and tie, and always offered prayers for everyone. He had a love for the sport of horse racing, and an even bigger love for the game of poker. Everyone at the poker casino knew him as King Louis.

He left behind a huge void and he will be truly missed. We take comfort in knowing he is rejoicing in Heaven.

Louis is survived by his one and only son, and his pride and joy, Pierre Garispe (Sharon), his granddaughter, Alicia Marie Garispe, and his grandson, Michael Biddle. His sisters, Marie Garispe (Etienne) from Nevada, Sabine Suzanne from Hasparren, Aquitaine, France, his brothers, Antoine Garispe (Grace), Amedee Garispe (Marcela) both from California and Jean Garispe in France. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him deeply. His last six years of life were spent with his companion Margaret Clampitt Cunningham which gave him so much joy.

He was predeceased by his parents, Tristan and Catherine Garispe, as well as his brothers, Jean Baptiste Garispe, Saint John Garispe, Lucien Garispe, Jean Pierre Garispe, and Albert Garispe.
