Leona Cihigoyenetche of Ontario passed away on December 7, 2017.
Leona was born to parents Alix and Clara Merlier on January 6, 1923 in Wortegem, Belgium and emigrated to the United States in 1950, settling in Anaheim, where she eventually became an American citizen.
In 1952, Leona married her loving husband Martin Cihigoyenetche, a fellow immigrant from the Basque region of France. Leona and Martin were happily married for 54 years.
During the 1950s and 1960s, Leona owned and operated a commercial embroidery business where she designed and embroidered a wide variety of logos for all kinds of customers, ranging from local bowling team shirts, car club jackets, and professional sports teams. During the 1960s, Leona and her husband, Martin, were partners in the Three C Dairy in Chino.
A longtime resident of Chino and Ontario, Leona was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and served as a member of the Southern California Basque Club for many years.
Leona enjoyed baking for loved ones and tending to her garden, which was always immaculate.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband Martin, her sister Angele, and her son Yves. She is survived by her son Jean Cihigoyenetche, his wife Susan, her grandsons Marty and Nicholas Cihigoyenetche, and Jon Salo.
Visitation will be held at Draper Mortuary, 811 N. Mountain Ave., Ontario on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the Rosary service to follow, beginning at 6 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 12686 Central Ave., Chino on Friday, December 15, 2017, beginning at 10 a.m.
