Jean “Jeannot” Arrayet, 88, passed away on September 10, 2020, in Bakersfield, CA.
Jean was born October 9, 1931, in Irouléguy, France, his beloved Basque Country, to Jean and Marie Arrayet. Jean was a sheepherder in Colorado before taking up residence in Kern County in 1958. Jean enjoyed working outdoors in landscaping and gardening and also in the family carpet store.
Jean was known to all for his infectious smile, warm welcome, humor, and love of his Basque heritage. He enjoyed playing the bugle for many years in the Kern County Basque Club Klika and often took home the championship trophy in Mus tournaments and handball.
He is survived by Jeannette Erassaret, his children Jean P. Arrayet, Rosemarie Abercrombie, his grandchildren Jeff Miller, Scott Strasner, Stephanie Stout, Taylor Yost, Kristen Arrayet, his great grandchildren Michael Miller, Estelle Miller, Josiah Stout, Madelyn Stout, Kamryn Yost, Ty Yost, Kinsey Yost, Skylar Jacobson and his siblings Desire Arrayet, Marie Etcheverry and Mayie Aramburu. He was preceded in death by his parents Jean and Marie Arrayet, his siblings Edouard Arrayet, Pierre Arrayet, Louie Arrayet, Arnaud Arrayet, Gabriel Arrayet and Catherine Etcheverry.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at 2:00pm at Greenlawn Memorial Park Northeast, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield, CA 93305. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020, from 4:00-8:00pm at Greenlawn Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield.
