Gloria Miren (Isaguire) Mendiola age 89 of Walla Walla passed away August 9th, 2017.
Gloria was born February 4th 1928 in Brooklyn, New York and was the only child to Zenon and Hazel Isaguire. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Boise, Idaho where she attended school and ultimately graduated from St. Teresa's Academy (High School). After attending a local business school she spent many years working for the Commissioner of Agriculture's office in Boise as a secretary.
In 1957 she married Thomas "Tom" J. Mendiola in Boise. Tom (from Mountain Home) was a professional civil engineer with the US Army Corps of Engineers during the busy dam construction era. They followed the construction work from Moses Lake, Washington to Hermiston Oregon, Tri-Cities, Clarkston, and ultimately Walla Walla working many dam projects on the Columbia and Snake Rivers.
Gloria is survived by her son Martin and his wife Susan, and their son Jacob (from Pullman, Washington). She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas.
While being a devoted wife and mother Gloria developed a calling as a volunteer, actively giving back to her church and the community. She spent many years volunteering for the Catholic schools in Clarkston, Park Manor nursing home in Walla Walla, Assumption Parrish in Walla Walla, and over 20 years as a volunteer in the chapel at St. Mary's hospital in Walla Walla. Gloria helped "train" many priests within the Diocese and was a devoted Seattle Mariner and Seattle Seahawk fan.
She was a supporter and charter member of the Basque organization, Euzkaldunak (Boise). Gloria was always willing to helping someone in need, would do anything for her cherished grandson. and was not afraid to give anyone her opinion.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:00 am (PST) at Assumption – The Blessed Virgin Catholic Church in Walla Walla followed by a graveside service at 5:00 p.m. (MST) at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Charities of Spokane (PO Box 2253, Spokane, WA 99210), Assumption Parrish (2098 East Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362), or the Basque Foundation, Inc.
