A stubborn, stoic, Basque gentleman passed away peacefully with family at his side on Jan. 5, 2017.

Frank Arroquero was born on Jan. 22, 1924, in Motrico, Spain, the oldest in a family of nine children. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 to herd sheep in the mountain ranges of Idaho. He eventually returned to Spain and married Maria Josefa Arrieta in 1961. They then returned to Burns, Ore., with their 3-month-old daughter, Gemma. Another daughter, Carmen, followed soon after.

Frank continued working sheep as foreman of the Kueny Ranch beneath the Steens Mountain and near the Alvord Desert of Eastern Oregon. Later, he resumed ranching in Langell Valley east of Bonanza, where he remained until his death.

He worked for Stanley Johnson for many years while raising his own herds of cattle and sheep on his own ranch. He relished working in the outdoors and tending to his ranch animals.

Frank leaves behind Josefa, his wife of 55 years; his two daughters; son-in-law, Steve Morgan; grandchildren, Krysta, Skylar, Heather, Mikayla, Elle, Nolan and Trey; and three great-grandchildren, Owen, Cailynn and Abigail. His remaining family lives in the Basque Country of Spain.

Frank's dedication to his family, his work ethic and his genuine good spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

May the shepherds in heaven guide you now. Your kindness, grit and determination will carry on.

Funeral mass will be held in St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Bonanza on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at 11 a.m., with a reception following in Cabrini Hall.

Graveside services will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Klamath Falls after the reception. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church.
