Eugenio Sarratea, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 25, 2017.
Originally from Almandoz, Spain, Eugenio is the oldest of ten children and is predeceased by his parents, Nicolasa Oyeregui and Juan Cruz Sarratea, and his brother, Francisco
Eugenio is survived by his loving wife Cathleen of 43 years; two sons, Mikel E. and John C. (Heather); grandson, Noah; brothers, Tiburcio (Jeanette), Anastacio, Ignacio (Gayle), Pedro (Katie), Fulgencio and Esteban; sisters, Maria Rosa and Martina; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Julie.
In 1959, Eugenio traveled from Spain to the United States on a three year contract to herd sheep in the Reno Tahoe area. Eugenio eventually obtained his Naturalized American Citizenship and worked for various local construction companies, including Byars, Helms, and eventually retiring from Q & D in 1996.
Eugenio enjoyed fishing and hunting with his German Shorthaired Pointers and playing Mus, a Basque card game, with his brothers and friends throughout the years.
Eugenio was an amazing man and will be greatly missed.
The memorial service will be held at Walton's Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd Street, Reno, NV, on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nevada Humane Society, 2825 Longley Lane, Suite B, Reno, NV 89502.
