Dorothy Claire Lutz was born on June 7, 1921 and passed away on September 9, 2023 at the age of 102.
A lifelong resident of Kerman, Dorothy was the youngest of four daughters born to Martin and Marie (Yraceburu) Irigaray, Basque immigrants. She attended Kerman-Floyd Elementary School, Kerman High School, Four C's Business College, and graduated from Fresno State College in 1946. She was affiliated with the Phi Mu Sorority while at Fresno State.
Dorothy taught at Kerman High School for twenty-seven years and California Consulting for ten years. She helped many students learn English and earn their high school diplomas. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kerman. She was a joyful member of the choir and taught catechism for many years. Always proud of her heritage, Dorothy enjoyed being a member of the Fresno Basque Club.
In 1950, Dorothy met Dan Lutz; they were married in 1952 and enjoyed sixty wonderful years together. They loved their three sons; Jim, John, and Michael. Dorothy liked to cook and enjoyed entertaining her family and friends – everyone was always welcome. She loved her family and friends deeply and remained the family's North Star through thick and thin. Dorothy asked that she be remembered in their prayers.
Her father Martin and mother Marie, husband Dan, sisters Jennie, Laure, and Genevieve, son Michael, and stepsons Jerry Lutz, and Larry Lutz pre-deceased her. Dorothy is survived by her son Jim (Kaywin Feldman) Lutz; son John (Laura) Lutz; daughter-in-law Desiree Lutz; grandchildren Valerie (James) White, Trenton Lutz, and Amanda Lutz; and her great-grandchildren Whitney (Christian) Ely, Clayton Clark, and Jameson White. The family is grateful to the remarkable women who took such good care of Dorothy in her last few years.
Services will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kerman on Monday, September 25, 2023. Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:30 AM; Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM. Private burial.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Saint Agnes Home Health & Hospice, 6729 N. Willow Ave., Suite 103, Fresno, CA 93710.
