Bernard Urrutia passed away on September 27, 2024, at the age of 64. Born on November 4, 1959, to Grace and Leon Urrutia, Bernard grew up in Madera and later moved to Le Grand, CA in the early 1990s. He shared many years with his family, including his parents and two brothers, Steve and Frank.
After completing high school, Bernard dedicated himself to the family business, initially managing over 5,000 head of sheep alongside his parents and brothers. Later, he transitioned to working with cattle, continuing the family tradition with his sons.
Bernard was a devoted husband to Roslind for nearly 30 years and a loving father to his three sons: Nathan, Nicholas, and Nolan. The family made their home in Le Grand and later in Chowchilla. Bernard was immensely proud of his sons and cherished his role as a father. He welcomed his daughter-in-law Rachel and adored his granddaughter, Layne.
Embracing his Basque heritage, Bernard was actively involved with the Los Banos Basque Club, serving as a past director and president. He was known for his culinary skills, particularly his BBQ lamb chops and green beans, which were a favorite among family and friends.
Bernard is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Roslind; his sons, Nathan, Nicholas (Rachel), and Nolan; his granddaughter, Layne; his brothers, Stephen (Caryn) and Frank (Sheron); and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, beginning with a rosary at 10:00 am and mass to follow at St. Columba Catholic Church, 213 Orange Avenue, Chowchilla, CA 93610. Bernard’s family will be providing a lunch reception after the services.
