Beatrice A. Cook (nee Mendiola), 95, died peacefully early Saturday, July 2, at Judson Park in Cleveland.
She was born April 5, 1921, in Baker City, Oregon to Gervasio and Anna Mendiola, who migrated to Idaho from the Basque Country. Her mother died when she was very young, and she was reared by her Aunt Leandra Letemendi in Boise, ID.
She graduated from St. Teresa's High School and served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) of the U.S. Army during World War II. She met her husband, Dick Cook while both serving as Army recruiters in Chicago. After the war, they were married in April 1946 at St. John's Cathedral in Boise and moved to Cleveland.
She was an interior decorator and buyer for Midge Thomas Inc. in Cleveland for many years.
Dick died in March 1983. She issurvived by her sister Phyllis Zubizareta of Boise and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers Raymond Mendiola and John S. Mendiola, both of Boise.
At Bea's request, contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Cleveland Playhouse Square, 1501 Euclid Ave #200, Cleveland, OH 44115 or to Our Lady of Peace Church, 12503 Buckingham Ave., Cleveland, OH 44120, where a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 25th at 11am. Private interment, Lake View Cemetery.
