Angele Goyeneche passed away surrounded by her family on May 7, 2019, after suffering a stroke.
Angele was born in Bidarray, France, in 1939. She left her beautiful home in the Basque Country in 1964 to immigrate to the U.S. and begin living her American dream.
She met and married Jean Goyeneche in 1965 and proudly made San Francisco her home, raising three daughters, Rosemary Goyeneche, Yvette Fawzi, and Isabelle Duhalde.
She worked in catering for over 40 years and loved making her famous and delicious Gateau Basque.
She was a proud and active member of the San Francisco Basque Club, Basque Cultural Center, and Basque choir. She loved Basque dancing and singing, and participating in Basque celebrations.
Her first love was her family: her daughters; her sons-in-law Sebastien, Peter and Jean-Michel; and her cherished grandchildren, Gabriel, Jean-Max and Nicolas, Cedric and Chloe.
Angele was loved by so many people, especially her family, friends, catering buddies, and the Basque and French communities. She will be greatly missed.
Thank you to all her loving friends for sharing thoughts and prayers and all the stories that show how special Angele truly was.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Angele's memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Red Cross.
