Emerson. When Reno's Santa Fe Hotel re-opened back in July, it meant a piece of Nevada history was able to live on. Originally opened in 1949, this historic Basque restaurant is a must for authentic cuisine in a cozy atmosphere.
The Santa Fe was closed for two whole years, but visiting it today you'll see that it's received quite the upgrade. The interior may look different than it has in the past, but this is the same ol' Santa Fe Hotel that Reno residents have grown to love and cherish.
Basque culture is very unique to Nevada. Coming from a very small country situated between France and Spain, many Basque people immigrated to the U.S. during the 19th century. They flocked to many western states, and Nevada was one of them.
Today, Nevada is home to some of the finest Basque cuisine in the country. One of the most notable featured of Basque dining are the family-style dinners, which you'll find here at the Santa Fe. These gigantic dinners include a variety of entrees along with side dishes like beans, salad, oxtail, and soup.
Alternatively, you can dine at one of the restaurant's smaller tables for a more intimate experience. With authentic and hearty dishes like New York Strip Steak, Campo Viejo Beef Tongue, Braised Oxtail, and Colorado Lamb Lollipops, your appetite will definitely be satiated!
Of course, seafood paella is one of the most well-known Basque dishes. It's served only as a special on Friday and Saturday, so be sure to plan accordingly if you want a taste of this mouthwatering dish.
We couldn't be happier to see this essential piece of Nevada history receive new life. The Santa Fe Hotel has been a longstanding favorite among Reno residents for good reason, and you'll just have to stop by yourself to see why.
The Santa Fe Hotel is open from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday
