William “Bill” Robert Crawford passed away on July 19, 2024, at the age of 100. Bill was born on June 5, 1924, to John H. Crawford and Mina Lucha Crawford in Winnemucca, Nevada. He attended Winnemucca schools and graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1942.
He was drafted to the Air Force and served as a Radar Observer for the 6th Emergency Rescue Squad in Central Burma and China. Upon his discharge from the Service in 1946 he returned to Winnemucca. Bill started his career with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. He worked his way up to counter clerk, Assistant Postmaster and finally Postmaster. Bill married the love of his life, Bonnie Hanson-Elliott on June 5, 1949. They raised two children, Becky and Craig. Bill retired from the Post Office in 1979 with 36 years of service.
During retirement, Bill and Bonnie began their adventures RVing. For the next 3 years, they traveled all over the United States. They lived in a number of cities and finally settled down in Boise, Idaho to be near grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In May of 2016, Bonnie and Bill moved back to Winnemucca.
Bill enjoyed working out at the Boys and Girls Club walking, lifting weights, bicycle and visiting friends. Bill loved his huge family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Bill is survived by his son, Craig, his grandsons, Jason and Brandon Willer, and his nephews, Vince (Joyce) Mendiola and Dave (Kandice) Mendiola. His nieces, Dorothy Crawford, Jeannie (Stan) Cowley, Karen (Rick) Streete and extended family of many grand nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mina Crawford, sister, Jeanne Duarte, brother, John Crawford and his loving wife, Bonnie and his daughter, Becky.
The family thanks the staff of Humboldt General Hospital for their care of Bill over the many years.
Services for Bill will be held on August 8, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Winnemucca Cemetery.
