Victoria Berrueta Elizaincin (30/03/1936 - 25/05/2024)

25/05/2024 - San Francisco, California, EEUU

Muy apreciada integrante de la comunidad vasca de San Francisco, comprometida, activa, euskaltzale, amante de la cultura vasca y del canto. Su pérdida será sentida por muchos. Viuda de Félix Berrueta y madre de Xabier y Aitor. Goian Bego (GB) Bittori.

She passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024 surrounded by family. Victoria, "Bittori" to her family and friends, was born in Gartzain, a small town in the Baztan Valley in Navarra, Spain on March 30, 1936. Victoria was one of ten children raised on a farm. As a young woman, she worked in France along with her sisters. Victoria met her future husband, Felix after he returned to the Basque Country from sheepherding in the United States. They married on July 10, 1971 in her hometown. They decided to move to California for only a "couple of years", residing in San Francisco, however they never returned to the Basque Country to live, but always enjoyed visits back to see family and friends.

Predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Felix Berrueta; her parents, Juan Eusebio Elizaincin and Concepcion Damasa Larregui; siblings, Encarna, Ino, Nati, Jose Mari, Mari Carmen, Luis Mari; brothers in law, Miguel Etxalar and Miguel Zozaya and sisters in law, Josefina Celayeta and Maritxu Oharriz. Victoria is survived by sons, Xabier and Aitor (Lisa Jovick-Berrueta); siblings, Paco (Txus Goni), Rosario and Mari Nieves (Pedro Ziga) and sister in law, Rosario Celayeta; many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Victoria was a devoted mother who loved her time with her family both here and in the Basque Country. She enjoyed cooking, daily walks in the neighborhood and relaxing on her front porch. Victoria was a proud founding member of the Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco, CA. She had a love of singing and was a member of the San Francisco Elgarrekin Basque Choir and BCC Women's Club. She was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Burlingame.
