Rosario Etcheveste, 96, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023.
Rosario was born on October 20, 1926, in Erratzu, Spain to Fermin and Manuela Etchart. She spent her youth working on the family farm. In 1961, she married Louis Etcheveste and fulfilled her lifelong dream of immigrating to the United States, settling in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, California where she resided for more than 50 years.
In 1979, Rosario faced her greatest challenge when the love of her life Louis, unexpectedly passed away. As a widow with two sons, she worked two jobs to support the family, living by the mantra: Be good, work hard, and pray. In spite of the hardships, she stayed positive and maintained her sense of humor.
After retirement, Rosario acquired her GED, an achievement she was very proud of. She enjoyed traveling the world, cooking, watching Dr. Phil and Suze Orman, and spending time with family and friends.
Rosario was a kind and dedicated mother who always put the needs of her family before her own. She instilled in her children the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. She was a true inspiration to those who knew her, was loved deeply, and will be profoundly missed.
Rosario is preceded in death by her husband Louis Etcheveste and two nieces Rosemary Arosteguy and Mary Ellen Fay.
She is survived by her two sons, Jean (Cathleen) and Antoine (Anne); Sister Maria Arosteguy; her five grandchildren, Louis, Ava, Mateo, Julia, and Teresa; as well as beloved nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The funeral will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, San Francisco, CA at 10:00 am, on January 31st. The final resting place will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1500 Mission Rd. Colma, CA following the mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rosario's memory to the Salesian Boys' and Girls' Club of San Francisco.
