September 26, 1950 - June 4, 2021
Richard was born in Emmett, Idaho on September 26, 1950 to Pete and Dorothy Uberuaga. He was the second of four children, joining brother David and eventually younger sisters, Damiana and Julia. Richard received a degree in fisheries biology from the University of Idaho in 1973.
Richard was in the Peace Corps and he worked in Fisheries in Alaska, Idaho, Arizona and Oregon. Richard met the love of his life Sandra, and together they chased fish and moose, travelled the world. They spent much time where he built a cabin in Beluga, by hand, by himself. Richard was so very proud of being Basque. Many remember him wearing his signature beret.
He passed peacefully and is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, his children, Andrew, Julian and Castilleja, step children, grandchildren and siblings. He had many friends and relatives, some with us and some that went before him. He will forever be in our hearts. His fishing and hunting stories will live on. His parting advice was to each day be grateful.
Richard's funeral will be on June 17th. "Goian Bego" Remembrances may be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance or to the Basque Museum in Boise, Idaho.
