Mikel de Luis, chef y empresario gastronómico bilbaíno afincado en Nueva York y propietario en Manhattan del restaurante & Txoko Haizea, de la empresa y gama de productos gastronómicos Amona, así como de catering y eventos, ha fallecido repentinamente, sin que conozcamos en este momento las causas. Su vida fue una intensa lucha por sacar adelante sus proyectos culinarios y hacerse un hueco en este rubro, desde hace ya largos años en Estados Unidos y la ciudad de Nueva York. Era un gran athleticzale y colaborador de euskal etxeas como el New England Basque Club y EENY. Sus redes sociales anuncian que sus empresas están cerradas hasta nuevo aviso. Se llevará a cabo un servicio en su memoria el martes 7 de febrero de 10 de la mañana al mediodía en Reddens Funeral Home, 325 14th St. (entre 8th y 9th Ave) en la ciudad de Nueva York. It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected and untimely passing of our beloved Chef Mikel de Luis.

Mikel was passionate and charming. He was fully invested in whatever he was doing and his passion was infectious.

He was on a mission of making real Basque cuisine known in the New York food scene with his beautiful creations.

Mikel had a natural manner about him that drew everyone in and created real personal connections throughout his lifetime, making each of us feel important to him. That was the overarching characteristic that permeated every aspect of his life.

He was a genuine force of nature, standing out amongst those we meet as one of the “Unforgettables.”

His premature death has shaken us to our core and he is deeply, achingly missed.

Rest in peace, beloved Mikel. Your team, family and friends will miss you deeply.
