Marie (Mayie) Elissetche was born in Osses, France and peacefully passed away in the comfort of her home in San Francisco.
Mayie was one of six children, an older brother and four younger sisters. She married Ganich Elissetche in August of 1948. Ganich immigrated to California in 1951. Mayie and Monique joined Ganich in May of 1952. They briefly settled in Cedarville, but soon moved to San Francisco. Ganich passed in 1990.
Mayie was the cherished mother of Monique Etchevers and Jean Pierre Elissetche. She was the adored mother-in-law of John Etchevers, grandmother of Daniel Etchevers and Michael Etchevers. She was equally cherished by her daughter-in-law Jessica and great-grandchildren, Dominic, Jacob, Connor, Allison and Madeline. Mayie is survived by three sisters, Marie Jeanne Berterretche (Pierre), Marie Louise Michelena of San Francisco and Monique Berhouet in Bidarray. Mayie was aunt and grand-aunt to nieces and nephews in the Bay Area and France and had cousins in France.
Mayie held steadfast to her Basque heritage as Basque remained her primary language. She socially enjoyed her Basque friends, playing Mus and joking with them on daily phone calls. She never missed a Basque picnic and was known for her Gateau Basque and homemade pate and fruit jams.
