Maria Asuncion Sapparrart passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, at the age of 86.
Maria Asuncion was born in Zarautz, Spain on May 17, 1938, to Jose Maria Roteta and Angela Aramendi.
In her late twenties she was working in Biarritz, France with her future sister-in-law and brother-in-law. That is where she first saw a photo of a very handsome gentleman. Little did she know that, that same man would later become her beloved husband, Antoine Sapparrart. Antoine had already been living in America when Maria Asuncion and Antoine began writing each other. It wasn’t before long that he made his way to the Basque Country in 1969 to marry Maria Asuncion and bring her back to America with him to start their life together.
Maria Asuncion went on to own her own cleaning service before becoming a caregiver. She was a member of the Basque Cultural Center and loved to play Mus (Basque Card Game). All the while being an amazing mother and devoted wife. She leaves behind her loving daughter Marie Helene Sapparrart Solis, son-in-law Jose Solis and cherished grandson Diego Antoine Solis.
Mass of resurrection will be held at St. Anne of the Sunset at 850 Judah Street, San Francisco, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place privately at a later date at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma.
A special thank you to everyone at Suncrest Hospice and Damenik’s Home in South City for their compassionate care. Please consider a donation in Memory of Maria Asuncion to St. Jude’s.
