Louis Martin Marticorena, 85, died peacefully in Roseville, CA on Sunday, February 13, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michel Marticorena and his sister Monique Celhabe.
Louis was born in Osses, France, on September 14,1936. He grew up in Osses, where he met the love of his life, Mayie.
After serving in the French military, Louis immigrated to San Francisco, CA, where he and Mayie were married and began their family. They had two daughters, Yvette and Janine.
Louis learned to cook and became a chef at several restaurants, most notably La Bourgogne, where he was Executive Chef for over 25 years. He ended his career as a chef and manager at the Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco.
Louis enjoyed traveling and participating in Basque community events, as well as cheering on the Oakland Raiders.
After retiring and moving to Roseville, Louis cherished time spent with his four grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacqueline, Valerie, and Jenna. He often spent summer mornings in Lake Tahoe, where you could find him fishing the Truckee River with a cigar in the corner of his mouth.
Louis is survived by his beloved wife Mayie, his sister Anne Marie Lapegue (Gerard), daughters Yvette Cherbero (Roland) and Janine Marticorena, four grandchildren, two great grandsons, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Roseville, CA on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 11:30 in the morning. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Basque Cultural Center to help preserve Louis's legacy of Basque community and pride.
