Anastasio Martin Landa
Anastasio Martin Landa, 81, lifelong resident of Reno, Nevada passed away on Sunday, May 25th in Reno, Nevada after a short illness.
Anas was born in Reno on May 28th, 1926. He helped his father with the family sheepherding business until he was 18 years old. He attended Reno High School until World War II called him into service at the age of 18.
Anas was trained at Fort Bragg California, then went over seas and served on the front lines in the Battle of the Bulge. He was captured by the Germans and became a prisoner of war until he was liberated by the American Troops and sent back to the United States in 1945. He served another year and was honorably discharged.
In 1946 he met the love of his life, Lucille Arregui. They were married in July of 1948 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Together they raised three sons, John, David and Gary. Desiring to make a good life for his family, Anas learned the heating, sheet metal and air conditioning trade. In 1967 he established Landa and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning.
Through the success of his business, Anas was proud to have been the driving force behind John and Gary completing a college education and was his son David’s mentor in the family business. David worked with Anas until his untimely death in 1981.
Anas retired in 1984 after which he and Lucy enjoyed their home in Graeagle and many rounds of golf with their friends.
Anas was a past member of the Carson Valley Lions Club, Reno Elks Club, past Vice-President of Reno Zazpiak Bat Basque Club, Little League coach, and an active member of the Graeagle Men’s Golf Club where he had a summer home.
Anas was preceded in death by his son David, father and mother, Anastasio and Juanita Landa, and brothers, Steve, March and Joe. Anas is survived by his wife Lucille, sons John Landa(Renée) of Reno, Gary Landa (Polly) of Winnemucca, grandchildren Brandi (Aaron) Griggs, David, Nick, Daniel and Trevor and brother Johnny Landa of Reno and sister Julie Mendiola of Reno and many nieces and nephews.
