"Elgarrekin" is the San Francisco Basque choir, comprised of both men and women, most of which were born in the Basque Country. When Mattin Zubieta came from Europe he brought with him the intention of forming a choir, since he had previously been an active member of Etorki. The San Francisco Basque Center wasn't built in those days so the choir´s original meetings were held at Jean-Leon Iribarren's house. Jeanne Mazeris was the group's first director.
The choir's repertoire includes traditional Basque songs, as well as liturgical music. Besides performing in their home city of San Francisco, the choir has also performed in Southern California, Nevada and Idaho under the direction of Martxel Tillous.
"Elgarrekin" recorded a cassette with the same name around 1981 with eleven Basque songs and under the sponsorship of the Basque Club of San Francisco. Since 2008 the CD version has also been made available.
