Even if the activities have been taking place since the beginning of the year, the main event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Zingirako Euskaldunak Basque Club took place this weekend and gathered, not only local friends but also a large number of representatives from various euskal etxeas. During the two days there were different options for the community: the most successful, without a doubt, was the dance on Saturday that was attended by more than 400, and the lunch on Sunday with some 250 attendees.
Chascomus, Argentina. After several months of work and high expectations, the weekend finally arrived to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the second founding of the Chascomus Basque Club. The effort bore fruit and the events were very successful, with all of the events being very well attended, not only by the local community but also by members of other Basque clubs who came to share the special date with the club. Dantzaris from Laurak Bat in Buenos Aires, Denak Bat from Cañuelas, Denak Bat in Lomas de Zamora and Euzko Etxea in La Plata also joined in the festivities as did representatives from Euzko Etxea in Necochea.
The program of events began on Saturday afternoon with mass, and continued with a dance performance in the Independence Plaza by the local club’s dancers along with visiting groups. “It has been some time since we have had such a performance, with dancing in the plaza. Many people came, interested by the club’s activities; some of them were even former club dancers, and they told us that they would like to come back,” Paula Berasain, dantzari and club member told EuskalKultura.com.
After the presentation in the plaza, club members and guests went to the Bochistico Independiente Club in a kalejira. The dance took place there and the festivities continued till dawn. During dinner, there were more Basque dances, thanks to the local dance groups with txikis, intermediated, adults and former dantzaris, as well as the invited dance groups.
Sunday Lunch
At noon on Sunday, hosts and guests returned to the club this time to enjoy an anniversary lunch. Some 250 people attended, including Mayor Javier Gaston, who addressed everyone present.
During lunch visiting delegations were presented a souvenir, and distinguished deceased members of the club Jose Larralde, Miguel Arraras, Santiago Caso and Cacho Errecart were honored. Women were also especially recognized for “supporting the club” and a video about the club was also shown.
Club members also showed their solidarity with Nekane Txapartegi, a Basque from Europe who risks extradition from Switzerland, where she is currently. With this aim a photo was taken and a petition was signed requesting that the extradition isn’t carried out.
