The Ikastolas of Erentzun in Viana, and Ibaialde in Lodosa are getting ready for celebrating on October 16 of Nafarroa Oinez, the event for Ikastolas in Navarre.  Before the event, there are several teaser events leading up to that day including the song from Nafarroa Oinez 1992 that was celebrated in Viana: “Arraroa, noski,” sung by Bittor Aiape.  This new version, dedicated to minority languages, also includes the diaspora, with the dance group from the Euskal Etxea of Chile.

Donostia-San Sebastian.  Twenty four years have passed, but we are sure that many of our readers remember that song, the soundtrack of Nafarroa Oinez 92, celebrated also in Viana.  With lyrics by Bernardo Atxaga, and the music by Jabier Muguruza, sung by Bittor Aiape, that “Lingua vasconum, lingua navarrorum" has remained in the memory of the Basques, with the catchy tune, and maybe by the simple logic of its message (“Lingua vasconum, lingua navarrorum, how strange a Navarre without Euskera would be”).

Now, celebrating Nafarroa Oinez's return to Viana, the project Txikiak Handi has done a new version of that song dedicating it to minority languages.  In the video, people from various countries appear singing in Quechua, Corsican, Kashubian, Catalan, and also sign language.

Among the participants, there were also Basques in the Diaspora, specifically the dantzaris from the Itxaropen Gaztea group from the Euskal Etxea in Santiago, Chile, as well as Basque students in Barcelona, Catalonia, representing the hundreds of thousands of people who are working in favor the Basque language and culture and Basque communities all over the world.
