Participants in the “Tour of the Dairies” will race classic cars and will cover 50 kilometers between Cañuelas to General Las Heras, where there will be an awards ceremony and there will be a Basque Taberna with a meal featuring a “typical menu from the Basque Country.” The event will take place on April 19 at 7pm and the starting line will be on Route 205 in front of the Golf Club in Cañuelas. The event is organized by the Zazpirak Bat Basque club in General Las Heras.

Las Heras has started a new initiative, this time in hopes of commemorating “the profession that many Basques developed with so much potential in several sectors of the country, and particularly in the southern dairy basin in the province of Buenos Aires.”
“The Tour of the Dairies” will be a race that will start in Cañuelas and will end in Gral. Las Heras traveling through Uribelarrea, Empalme Lobos, Zapiola and Speratti. Participatns will drive classic cars divided into two categories: up until the year 1940 can race at speeds between 30 and 35 kilometers an hour; and cars older than 1975 can race at 60 kilometers an hour.
According to Luis Echegaray, “many of the drivers are members of the Association in Gral. Las Heras “Horacio Anasagasti,” the entity that gathers aficionados of classic cars and whose name was chosen in tribute to the Basque engineer who is considered the first Argentinean care maker.” “The idea is also to gather people from the dairy area that supplied Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries,” club president explained to La Voz newspaper in Las Heras.
Once the race is over, Zazpirak Bat will open its doors for a Basque Taberna – located on Lozano and Avenida Villamayor – for the awards ceremony and to provide the drivers, and their friends, lunch where they will enjoy traditional delicacies from the Basque Country.” This is how the Basque club in Gral. Las Heras will open its 2015 calendar of events, that will also include, a bonfire for San Juan and San Pedro, in June; San Ignacio in July and the festival of Basque rural sports in December.
“The Tour of the Dairies,” will take place this Sunday, April 19 starting at 9am; the starting line will be at the beginning of Route 2015 (Camino Real) in front of the Cañuelas Golf Club.
