Castelló/Castellón, Spain. This afternoon “Zazpi aldi elur (Mikel Laboa elurretan)” will bring snow and a lot of music to the auditorium at the Jaume I University. The Tanttaka Company will present this work based on the songs of one of the most prominent and influential Basque musicians of the past decades, who gave voice to legendary songs like "Txoria txori" (Hegoak), "Baga, biga, higa" or "Izarren hautsa.”
The work was born from conversations between Mireia Gabilondo, the show’s director and the singer from Donostia and includes a script written by Bernardo Atxaga, author of masterpieces of Basque narrative like Soinujolearen semea (The Accordionist’s Son) or Obabakoak. Atxaga was also a close friend of Laboa and kept much documentation and interviews that he had done with him over the years.
The adaptations of Laboa’s work and other songs are carried out by pianist Iñaki Salvador (long time friend of the singer) and guitarist Angel Unzu, who accompanied Laboa at his last concert on the Zurriola beach. The vocals are proved by Maria Berasate, singer from Donostia. The play is interpreted by Iñaki Ricarte and Mireia Gabilondo who is also its director.
