Donostia-San Sebastian. Eusko Ikaskuntza opened online voting yesterday to choose the winner for the 2020 Manuel Lekuona Prize. This award is given to people with a long career, not necessarily academic, who characterize an evident contribution to the Basque culture through their great commitment. Award bases here. The selection process is mixed and is weighted in the following way: EI members (30%), and the global Basque community (10%) and the jury (60%).
The award is a bronze sculpture by Remigio Mendiburu.
In the first phase, eight candidates were chosen, some with links to the Diaspora. The candidates are:
-Arantzazu Amezaga, historian. Candidacy and support
-Teresa Catalán, composer and music teacher. Candidacy and support
-Xabier Egaña, ilustrador and plastic arts. Candidacy and support
-Jose Ramon Etxebarria, engineer and euskalgintza. Candidacy and support
-Blanka Gomez de Segura, potter. Candidacy and support
-Felix Ibarrondo, musician. Candidacy and support
-Koldo San Sebastián, historian. Candidacy and support
-Enrike Zelaia, folklorist. Candidacy and support
