San Nicolás, Argentina. The transmission chain of the Basque languages has not been broken with another 15 teachers trained in the Euskara Munduan Program that concluded their training with the possibility of accrediting their level of Euskera last July. The Euskal Etxea in San Nicolas then welcomed a new group of 35 future teachers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. In the worlds of Etxepare Institute representative and program coordinator, Kinku Zinkunegi, “When we opened the call, we were not expecting such a response. More people than ever have become involved in hopes of becoming teachers.”
The course lasted a week from January 18-25th and began at a basic level. In this way, and following the mechanism of the previous courses, future teachers will work for four years with weekly online unites and two face-to-face courses per year. “Although we have trained a large number of teachers, there is still a lack of irakasles in some centers (in Argentina there are more than 100 Basque clubs…) and that is why we have stared this new group,” Zinkunegi explained.
In regards to the teachers at the Barnetegi, classes were taught by Andrea Bella from Uruguay, and Cecilia Canz from Argentina, “Both took the accreditation exam in July and passed the B2 level, and I think that represents greatmotiviation for sutdents that are now beginning,” Zinkunegi said. Gabriela Mendia, Euskera Chair for FEVA also taught classes, along with Zinkunegi himself.
To conclude, the teacher from Gipuzkoa had nothing but words of gratitude for the hosting Basque club and its members. “They made us feel at home: The work group that cooperates club president, Ana Erauskin is incredible,” he added.
