Elko, Nevada, USA. The Elko Basque Club announced the cancellation of its 2020 National Basque Festival due to COVID-19 some time ago (see here). After canceling the three-day festive gathering that attracts a large audience from various states to the city each year, the local Basque club is now organizing a local Basque festival at its clubhouse, which has an outdoor patio. This event is comprised of a family dinner followed later by a an open-air dance in the outdoor parking lot of the Star Hotel, one of the most popular and oldest Basque places in town.
The picnic and dance are set for Saturday, July 4th with an early dinner at 4pm. The club’s bar will be open for business starting at 3pm. At nightfall, the action will move to the Star Hotel who will be in charge of hosting the dance outdoors with music provided by a DJ and Jean Flesher along with his band Amerikanuak, and Mercedes Mendive of Melodikoa.
Organizers are asking everyone who may attend to be responsible. If anyone is not feeling well, they are asking that they don’t take any risks and please don’t attend. They are calling on everyone to comply with the measures put in place by local and state authorities.
