Today, the race in favor of the Basque language begins in Urepel (Lower Navarre), however this race has crossed geographic boundaries for years and has reached all over the Diaspora, adding a bit of the local flavor to it everywhere it is celebrated. That is why Necoceha will take it to the beach and will follow the run with a picnic at the Miguel Lillo Park. Along with this, the Basque club also invites everyone to join them at their 70th anniversary dinner that will take place on Saturday April 18th.
Necochea, Argentina. On the banks of the Atlantic, in the province of Buenos Aires, the city of Necochea will also be a part of Korrika 19 that began today in the Basque Country. The goal is to once again show that this city that is nearly 11,000 kilometers from the Basque Country has euskaltzales that are also in favor of Euskera. The Basque club in Necochea’s event is open to everyone: “We will leave the Pinolandia Avenue on bikes, skates, walking, running and by car…to gather people of all ages. Instead of leaving from the clubhouse, and taking advantage of the extended summer a little, and as long as the weather is good, we will celebrate Korrika at the park and the beach,” Basque teacher, Maite Bilbao, explained to EuskalKultura.com.
The event will take place this Sunday march 22 at 11am, at the corner of Pinolandia Ave. and Ave. 10. After the race the korrikalaris will share a picnic at the Miguel Lillo Park.

To celebrate, there is also a special party begin organized by the club. “We are planning a dinner like the ones we used to have before…with an orchestra and everything,” Kiti Zubillaga said. “We want it to feel like they did when we were young, and we have invited the Necochea Orchestra to play music of the time the Center was founded,” she explains.
Even if the anniversary date is the 15, the anniversary dinner will take place on Saturday the 18th with a menu that includes pintxos, and ham with tomatoes in sautéed garlic, tri-tip with potatoes, coffee and ice-cream.
