Venado Tuerto, Argentina. The Basque community in Venado Tuerto is taking the first steps to create a local Basque club.  With this goal in mind, they organized the first Semana Vasca October 3-10.  The event was open to the public and also included the collaboration of Ander Zudaire, Nora Urtasun and Alicia Urtasun, three Navarrese youth who are currently touring Basque clubs in Argentina teaching Basque dance and language.

After the event, Jorgelina Otegui reported that everyone was very satisfied with how it went: “It complete exceeded our expectations, not only because of what we experienced, but because of what it left behind, giving us a path forward,” she explained.

“At the root of this dynamic was the Ballet “horizon” by Susana Bosio that became Basque dance.  We have eight students in Basque and dance classes and during the week many others contacted us from the community who previously haven’t participated.  Without a doubt, activities like this give meaning to the Euskal Etxea project,” she affirmed.

The three youth from Navarre were also very happy with the experience.  “We really enjoyed ourselves.  We were warmly welcomed and we think everything was excellent.  For us it was a new experience to work with a new institution but it gave us the possibility to provide them the basis for Basque dance and language classes,” Ander Zudaire told us.
