Salto, Uruguay. The Managing Commission of the “Bodega Harriague Punto 0 del Tannat” Cultural Space, led by the Euskal Etxea, the City and the local Association of Wine Growers, gathered last week to set the dates and main activities of the second “Harriague Week.” The cultural festival in honor of Pascual Harriague (Hazparne, 1819-Baiona 1894), Basque pioneer and who introduced the Tannat to the country, today considered Uruguay’s national strain, was held for the first time last year, in commemoration of the bicentennial of his birth in hopes of becoming an annual festival.
The second Harriague Week will take place April 13-19th and will include sports, paleta and a korrika on Saturday, as well as other recreational/cultural activities like a “Wine Fest” and a lecture TBD.
During the gathering, that took place at the Basque club, those present toasted with Tannat Exotic, wine by Bertolini & Broglio, one of the cellars that collaborated the most on the Harriague Project, a wine that just received its fourth medal in Europe.
