San José, Uruguay. The San Joseko Euskaldunak Taldea Basque Club in San Jose, Uruguay celebrated its first decade on August 24th at the Centenario Club. Some 25 people gathered including members, Basque students and the club’s president, Zenon Echeverry who shared lunch and participated in the activities carried out by Basque teacher, Andrea Bella. As at any Basque festival, besides great food, there was also music and dancing.
In the words of Andrea Bella, “I taught them some simple dances so we could also dance. Since many of them are Basque students - remember that she travels from Montevideo to teach Basque classes in San Jose – we also practiced the language some. We all had a great time!”
This weekend, as the majority of Basque clubs all over the world, the San Joseko Euskaldunak Taldea will celebrate Basque Diaspora Day. They will do so on September 8th in Zenon Echeverry’s yard with lunch and an afternoon of table games, dances and songs…
