Montevideo, Uruguay. FIVU, the Federation of Basque Institutions in Uruguay, comprised of most of the clubs in the country, has opened enrollment for Basque classes that will be taught this year, face-to-face, as well as through distance learning with a wide variety of options in respect to levels. Classes are free and are taught by teachers trained through the Euskara Munduan Program, managed by the Etxepare Basque Institute. Anyone interested can enroll by emailing cursosdeeuskera@gmail.com or by calling +598 2215 7029. More information, here.
Jumping to the end of the year, FIVU has also determined the place and date for Udaleku 2020. The children’s summer camp will take place September 4-6 in Villa Bautista, La Tuna, in the Department of Canelones.
20th Basque-Uruguayan Udaleku
The hurry to decide the Udaleku dates is the result of the fact that Udaleku 2019 couldn’t take place until later January of this year.
This did not affect the success of the camp that gathered some 30 youth from the following Basque clubs: Ibai Ondoko Etxea in Carmelo, San Joseko Euskaldunak Taldea in San José, and from the Euskaro and Haize Hegoa Basque Clubs in Montevideo coordinated by FIVU teachers.
During the weekend workshops are held with singing in Basque and creating musical instruments; dance workshops, crafts and Basque classes. As a souvenir, each participate took away a pot that they made in a workshop with a plant and of course great memories of the time spent together. See the photo album here.
