Vitoria-Gasteiz. The University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHY) launches its Postgraduate on the Basque Diaspora. The program runs October through June in both virtual and in person meetings (it can be made totally on line). Its launch was announced by its academic coordinator, Oscar Alvarez Gila, and by the Basque Government’s Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Gorka Alvarez Aranburu. Supported by the Basque executive, tuition is less than a normal postgraduate program.
Included in its teaching staff, are experts like Alvarez Gila himself, Thomas Aikins, Alberto Angulo, Joseba Arregi, Maialen Goirizelaia, David Rio, Argitxu Camus, Marijo Olaziregi, Iker Saitua, John Bieter, Pedro Oiarzabal, Leire Arrieta, Gorka Alvarez, Benan Oregi….With guest professors that will be able to contribute their testimony and knowledge in the different subjects.
No specific prior knowledge is required. This is a pioneer environment, since there are no other similar postgraduate programs in the Spanish State, yes in Ireland, and the United States….
Two levels of training and degrees are provided:
-University Expert, Expert Title, 18 credits. 40 spots. No university degree is required to take it
-University Specialization: Specialist Degree, 30 credits. 40 spots. Requires a university degree and the preparation of an end-of-course project.
The Program Contents will generically address the Diaspora from disciplines such as History, Economy, Culture and Communication (with special attention to the Internet and social media); to Delve into the fact and the specific reality of the Basque Diaspora; and (in the case of the specialist degree) the introduction to research, focused on the preparation of the end-of-course work.
In-person classes will be taught at the College of Humanities at the University of the Basque Country – Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV-EHU), in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Classes will be in Spanish with one subject in English.
Tuition fees for the basic level are 200 Euros and 300 Euros for the higher level.
