Invited by the Beti Dantzari Basque group, 75 children from the Union Vasca Basque club in Bahia Blanca; Hiru Erreka in Tres Arroyos; and the local Eusko Biltzar Basque club participated in the second edition of the Txikis Get-Together in Coronel Pringles. For two days, there were games, music and dances and as a novelty, a sleep over at the Basque club.
Coronel Pringles, Argentina. The second edition of the Txikis-Intermediate Get-Together, for kids between the ages of 6-15, took place the last weekend of September and gathered three Basque clubs from the south of the Province of Buenos Aires: Union Vasca, Hiru Erreka and the hosting club, the Eusko Biltzar. Organized and coordinated by members of the Beti Dantzari dance group, activities began on Saturday morning and lasted through Sunday afternoon, when the visiting delegations left for home.
For two days the kids played games, sang songs, danced and did an endless number of recreational activities that included a visit to the local spa and Main Square. The goal of the event, stressed local dance director, Yanina Sallaberry, is “to encourage and strengthen ties between the nearby clubs, and have a good time.” That is why, the Eusko Biltzar community will also visit their neighbors soon: “We will go to Bahia Blanca in October and then to Tres Arroyos at the end of October or in early November,” Salaberry told the local newspaper El Orden.
Saturday concluded with the dantzaris showing what they learned to the large audience that had gathered. Board members from Eusko Biltzar, including club president, Juan Jose Olasagastia, also attended the event. This year’s novelty was a sleepover where the kids slept in tents on the clubhouse grounds.
