Once again, Mexico City’s Basque club celebrated San Sebastian Day in style, one of the events that gathers the most people at this embassy of the Basque Country in the land of the Aztecs. The event was celebrated in the purest Donostia, or Azpeitia style that included the tamborrada. Under the direction of Alfredo Jover, event veteran, a group of chefs performed for more than an hour, entertaining with the San Sebastian March as well as other mythical compositions by Master Sarriegi.

Mexico City.  The Mexico City Basque club vibrated with the sound of drums and barrels last Saturday, thanks to the performance by a group of San Sebastian Day enthusiasts who annually participate in the Basque-Mexican Danborrada.  After many years of experience, the group was led by Alfredo Jover, who returned to delight the members and their guests gathered at the club’s restaurant for the San Sebastian dinner.

The Mexican-Basques did not miss the annual appointment with the sounds of the Tamborrada and more than 200 people gathered at the Basque club for the occasion.  Club president, Lurdes Arrechea, thanked everyone for coming and joining in the celebration so enthusiastically with their applause and cheers.  The event was also supported by the Delegation of Euskadi in Mexico.

The evening began with dinner and then at midnight, the Tamborrada made its entrance lead by Alfredo Jover.  The group was comprised of “around 20 people from Donostia or friends of Donostia, who delighted the crowd for nearly an hour and a half with their drum and barrel performance,” according to center members.  The members of the Tamborrada were dressed as cooks and performed a large part of the festivals repertoire, with special emphasis given to the traditional San Sebastian March.
