“Sorgin txiki,” “Galtzagorri aztia,” “Basajaunen sukaldea,” “Marigorringoren abenturak”…are some of the children’s stories in Basque available on the free Ipuintxo app for smartphones. Many stories and adventures in Basque with traditional Basque mythological figures, but told in as an interactive story where the children can engage.
Donostia-San Sebastian. The Basque Company Estudio Panpiki is the creator of Ipuintxo, an app that provides interactive stories for cellphones in Basque. The stories are based on Basque mythology and can be seen like a movie of like a game where children can participate in the development of the story and interact with the story and its characters.
Ipuintxo was born in 2013, with the creation of "Marigorringo-ren Abentura.” “The main motivation of the project was the lack of contents of this type, free, for kids and entirely in Basque, Iñaki Garcia from Estudio Panpiki tells EuskalKultura.com. “From there, 9 stories were published and more games, whose theme revolves around Basque mythology and its characters but always form a child’s perspective.”
The game was very well received and has 15,000 downloads, some of these also from the Diaspora. “Fortunately, social media has facilitated the diffusion of this project world-wide, and thanks to it, Ipuintxo is now well-known in several Basque clubs all over the planet. Ipuintxo is already being used in the US, Chile, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, and Colombia to name a few,” iñaki says.
The creators of Ipuintxo are working to expand the story catalog and are hoping to publish four more stories by the end of the year.
