The Euskal Sustraiak Basque Club in Trenque Lauquen celebrated its 20th birthday at the main hall of the clubhouse. The hosts provided an excellent dinner that included tributes to its founders, and lifetime members, as well as to Basque teachers, and dancing. Between toasts and emotions, the party ended at dawn.
Trenque Lauquen, Argentina. The anniversary days was May 15th and the celebration took place on Saturday the 19th will a dinner/dance. During the evening, the current board of directions honored the club’s founders, including Haydee Merino Norma Mosquera, Isabel Balciscueta, María Inés Izaguirre, Lina Acha, José and Celia Echaniz, and Juan María Oloriz from Donostia. They also honored their first Basque dance teacher, Koki Brua and Macarena, dantzari from the first club dance group Euskal Makillak.
Jorge Ortiz, club reference told EuskalKultura.com that various members of the club recalled the beginnings of the club and “all the adventures they had to go through to get members,” always stressing that none of their work was in vain when they see the fruit of their work today. They dedicated a few words to Mario Eguren, creator and the first club president who passed away in August of 2017. During dinner, they also showed a video with images and photos from the club and everyone who has been a part of it over the years. The night included entertainment by Diego Hernan Paez, renowned musician from Trenque Lauquen that maintained the festive climate until 4am.
