Tribute to Historian Amaya Garritz tomorrow at the National Autonomous University in Mexico

Basque-Mexican Historian, Amaya Garritz, will be honored tomorrow on her career thanks to the National Autonomous University (UNAM) in Mexico, more specifically from her Institute of Historical Research. Garritz is an authority in the area of the Basque presence in Mexico and has organized several conferences in the last few years as well as activities dedicated to the topic. The day of tribute will take place at City University in Coyoacán, and will be attended by various history experts and genealogists.

Mexico City, Mexico. The National Autonomous University in Mexico will hold a tribute tomorrow in honor of dedicated historian, Amaya Garritz, a reference in this country in the study and research of the Basques on Mexican land.  The event will be a tribute not only to her prolific and outstanding professional career but to her personal one as well.

As a researcher, Amaya Garritz has contributed significantly to the Basque community in Mexico organizing, among other events, conference focused on the Basque presence in Mexico in Mexico City in 2007 and in Veracruz in 1994 for example. She also was an active participant in the Mexico City Basque club’s Centennial and also wrote a book on the 100 years of life of the club along with Javier Sanchiz.

Tomorrow’s tribute will take place in the Events Hall of the Institute of Historic Research at the City University of Coyocan (Mexico City).
