Jose C. Paz, Argentina. The Toki Eder Basque club is organizing a special tribute to honor 16 of their members who were born in the Basque Country, among these the club president, Maria Angeles Oñederra. According to club sources, “this is a debt that we have owed them for some time. It is a tribute to those who were born there but live here and honor our club. That is why we are extending a special invitation to them to be our guests for lunch, and our dantzaris will perform an Aurresku in their honor. There will also be singing and we will present them a scroll.”
Lunch will be held on December 6 in the clubhouse’s main hall.
Talks
Every year the club organizes a series of talks to acquaint the community on various aspects of Basque culture. The last two for 2015 were done by Magdalena Mignaburu and Mikel Ezkerro.
Magdalena Mignaburu visited Toki Eder on November 14 and gave a talk entitled The Historic Evolution of the Basque Country through its Typical Dress. As the club president said, “Thank you for your friendship and expertise we have learned a lot about our culture, remembering experiences and customs of our parents and grandparents. We are all very appreciative for the talk that you gave us.”
“In the case of Mikel Ezkerro, the chosen topic for this event was In Search of Basque Roots and as always he went to the depths of the audience that was satisfied and excited by the clear concepts that were full of knowledge about our roots,” Oñederra said.
Thanking him for this visit, as well as all his previous trips to Jose C. Paz, and in recognition of this selfless work over the years that he has done for Toki Eder and the cultural dissemination at many of the Argentinean Basque clubs, the Toki Eder Basque club unanimously agreed to take advantage of the occasion and communicate their thanks and respect, making him an Honorary Member of the club.
