As every year, as a tribute to all of the workers on May 1, the Eusko Etxea Basque Club in Corpus Christi, in the Argentine province of Misiones, honored three local individuals presenting each with a diploma. The club invites everyone to participate in the “Amazing Stories” contest that is now in its 7th year. All of this and more, in the club’s newsletter Berripapera.
Corpus Christi, Argentina. The club’s board of directors unanimously elected the three individuals that were honored on May 1st. Their names are “ Eugenia Duda, who gets up every morning at 4am to make homemade bread for her clients, Carmen Deilia Miranda who in addition to being the club’s treasurer, tours the city everyday on her bike to deliver the appropriate newspaper to each family, despite the cold, heat, or rain; and Cirio Fornasari who has dedicated his life to taking care, maintaining and enhancing the family business in the creation of bergamot used for making perfumes,” acording to Berripapera.
The presentation of the diplomas was “a very emotional get-together,” Olga Leiciaga, the club alma mater said. “Each of the honorees told us about his/her work over the years and why they continue to do so.” Once the presentation was over, everyone shared a toast.
Tamborrada and Euskera in Corpus Christi
In hopes of bringing the Donostia drums to Mesopotamia, the Corpus Basque club has started a Tamborrada workshop. The proposal is directed to people of all ages, and the classes will be held on Wednesdays at 6pm, taught by Ana Maria Macchi Echague. The drums won’t be the only Basque sound heard at the Basque club in Corpus Christi since many members have also started taking the online Basque culture and language class in hopes of cultivating and transmitting basic knowledge of the language of the Basque Country.
