The Artea Euskal Etxea will bring music from the north (of the Iberian Peninsula) to the streets and plazas of Mallorca as part of the first edition of the “Trobada de Musiques del Nord,” organized by the club. From Bizkaia the Basque music and dance group Dangiliske will play along with Talamh (Celtic music) and the Galician Gaiteros, Anaquiños. There will also be txalaparta, Basque dance and the possibility to taste Basque food at the club’s stand.
Palma, Mallorca. The Artea Euskal Etxea in Mallorca will celebrate the “Festival of Music from the North,” over the next two days in the heart of the Ballearic Island. The festivities will begin on Friday at 19:00 in the Sant Jaume de Portocolom Plaza. There three groups participating in the festival will perform: Dangiliske, a group from Bizkaia that performs Basque music and dance; Talamh, a Celtic group; and Anaquiños, that is comprised of Gaiteros from Galicia. “In addition to these groups we will also have a txalaparta which also arouses a lot of interest,” Manoli Korta, club Basque teacher, told EuskalKultura.com.
On Saturday the festival will move to Palma, specifically to the Parc de ses Estcions. There, beginning at 19:00, the three groups will again perform. In addition, the club will have a booth where they will be selling typical food and drink from the Basque Country.
On the other hand, the Mallorca Basque club has begun its activities with the new semester, including Basque classes and txalaparta lessons. Next week Basque dance will start. Looking forward, in November they are organizing another wine tasting at the Anima Negra Cellar, like last year. In December the club will participate in the “Trobades de les Cases Regionales,” (Regional House Meetings). “Even though it entails a lot of work, it is a great opportunity to represent the Basque club because it is a huge showcase,” Korta concluded.
