Xabier Lasa, Basque teacher from Tolosa, will be in charge of teaching this seminar in two sessions, on Tuesday and Thursday this week at the University. The event is being developed as part of the Patagoniarantz Program that was recently created by Basque clubs in Patagonia. As part of this program, Lasa will also give a talk on Basque culture this Wednesday the 22nd at the Alberdi Cultural Center in the city of Neuquen. Both activities are free and open to the public.
Neuquen, Argentina. The “Patagoniarantz” Program is the fruit of meetings of Patagonian Basque clubs. The project came about at the last meeting where club representatives from southern Argentina drew up regulations and outlined projects that would be carried out jointly, including this program. Patagoniarantz hopes to support the knowledge and the diffusion of the Basque culture and Euskera in the region, as well as show what it means to be from Patagonia.
As part of this project, the Baskos of the Confluence Basque club will host Basque teacher Xabier Lasa, from Tolosa, who will teach two seminars and give a talk, after having attended Semana Vasca. The seminar is divided into two sessions, one on Tuesday and the other on Thursday beginning at 6pm at the College of Humanities at the University of Comahue, on Avenida Argentina 1299 in Neuquen. The talk about various aspects of Basque culture will take place on Wednesday at the Alberdi Cultural Center (Av. Argentina y Alberdi) at 5:30pm.
Film and book fair in Cipolletti
One of the largest events of the year for the members of “Baskos” is their participation in the Book Fair in Cipolletti where they will debut a stand created especially for the occasion. The Basque stand will include material lent them by the Delegation of the Basque Government, FEVA and publishers at the Foundation Juan de Garay and Lauburu Publishers. As Oscar Mendiberri, club president, told EuskalKultura.com, “we made a great impact and receive a constant flow of people who are interested in different aspects of the culture, and many left their contact information for us to get in touch with them. We also passed out pamphlets that we crated with information about the Basque Country that also included a basic Basque dictionary on the back,” he explained.
Looking ahead, the Baskos of the Confluence will carry out the second edition of its Film Series on December 8-9, coordinated by Carlos Gabilondo. “After our prior success, we already booked two more visits with Gabilondo for next year. He will also leave us enough material so that we can continue with the series on Fridays alternating between Neuquen and Cipolletti, with the same format: introduction of a film, followed by a discussion,” Mendiberri said.
Among the latest new things in the club that Mendiberri mentioned, “On November 15 we did a clothing and shoes drive for the “Barriletes en bandada” organization that the club has collaborated with for six months.
