Vitoria-Gasteiz. In hopes of reaching the most people possible the final details of the Basque Week program are being finalized and they will include different blocks of participatory outdoor activities in privileged locations. Cultural, traditional sports (Herri Kirolak) and culinary experiences will be offered, seeking the active participation of spectators in aspects of Basque culture, traditions and gastronomy in their city, Tokyo
The Basque Secretary General of Foreign Action, Marian Elorza, has presented the initiative after a meeting held this week at Ajuria-Enea, with Lehendakari Urkullu and the Ambassador of Japan, Kenji Hiramatsu. The Basque Government wants to take advantage of the celebration of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo to launch this pioneering venture, in order to promote the positioning of the Euskadi Basque Country brand abroad, and to support all those Basques with interests in Japan
The Japanese Embassy is collaborating in the initiative. Based on three points of action, different events will be organized in the Basque Country focusing on sending business missions in both directions, promoting startups, gastronomic fairs, etc. This fall, one of the main Basque cities will host the biggest and most significant event, such as gastronomic activities and film fairs.
Remember that Bilbao hosts the “Japan Weekend,” festival every February and in June the “Salon Manga in Bilbao” gathers some 10,000 people for anime and manga. Keeping in mind that this year “Euskadi-Japan 2020,” will be celebrated, the embassy will work so that the magnitude of these two events are larger than at previous editions.
