The Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (BOPV-EHAA) included in the edition published on Wednesday October 25th information on 2017 grants for Basques in extreme need living in Basque communities abroad. These grants, that were approved by the Government’s council yesterday, has a budget of 202,000 Euros. Applications are presented through Basque clubs and the deadline to apply is November 25.
Vitoria-Gasteiz. The Resolution that was published today will assist people who, either due to the monetary fluctuations and economic deficiencies in some countries; age; disability; health crisis; or due to accidents find themselves in situations of extreme need.
Applicants will also need to meet the following requirements:
a) Be able to prove membership of a Basque community,
b) Reside abroad,
c) Lack goods and income which allows addressing health care needs or situations of extreme need, and
d) Live in a private home, and not be part of an organization, community or institutions that by their rules or bylaws are obliged to assist them.
When aid is granted, the family’s economic situation in relation to the average income of the country where they reside, the severity of the health issue, or the situation of extreme need, and the adequacy of the request to meet that need will be assessed.
Grants may equal one hundred percent of the requested amount, but is limited to the basic income in force in the Basque Autonomous Community, except in the case of health contingencies which will not be limited.
Since its inception in 2003, the Basque Government has awarded grants through htis program that have fundamentally benefited between 70-100 families in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela and Cuba.
