Basque culture will be showcased starting today in Rome with a complete program of cultural activities organized by the Associazione Culturale Euskara (ACE) and the Department of Basque Language and Culture of the UPTER University: Joseba Sarrionandia now in Italian, Basque-Italian dictionary, films, pintxos and music through December 12th.
Rome, Italy. December comes to Rome loaded, as usual, with the program organized annually by ACE and the UPTER University. In prior editions known as “Settimana Basca” or Euskal Astea, this year the program has grown and has become Basque December.
Events begin today, Tuesday, with a conference on Basque Culture and Literature at 12:00 at the Universita Roma 3. It will include the presentation of the translation of Lagun izoztua into Italia by Joseba Sarrionancdia, published by Libe Edizioni entitled, L’amico congelato and the presentation of the Basque-Italian dictionary project. Speakers will be Jose Francisco Zinkunegi (HABE), Roberta Gozzi, translator and Marcello Liberato, computer project coordinator.
On Friday, December 5 there will be a food evening with a pintxo tasting at the Forte Prenestino starting at 19:00. On Tuesday the 9th, there will be a showing of the hizkimizki.com project thanks to Maider Elkoro at the Universita Roma 3.
The next day, the Cineclub Detour will enjoy a day of Basque film with the showing of Homing by Xabier Iriondo and The House of Emak Bakia by Oskar Alegria.
Basque December will conclude on Friday the 12th with a concert by Magmadan at the Hulahoop Club (Via de Magistris, 91/93). This duo comprised of Itziar Markiegi (synthesizer) and Myriam Petralanda (percussion) plays “a fusion of sound and rhythm with acoustic and electronic, with influences of noise and folk.”
