Elko, NV, USA. This weekend is marked in the United States, being the weekend of the 4th of July, a national holiday in the country. In the case of Elko, Nevada they have been celebrating for 53 years on this weekend in conjunction with the local Basque club’s annual festival, witnessing to the mark made by new generations of Basques born in the US, and their achievements here, while not leaving their Basque roots aside. Along with the Basque festivities in Elko, the Basque calendar also includes the celebration of the 73rd annual Basque Picnic at the Southern California Basque Club on Sunday.

In Elko the Basque festivities begin today, Friday at 6pm on Ormaza Way. The main festival events will take place, however on Saturday and Sunday at the Basque clubhouse, local restaurants and through the streets of Elko, specifically with the annual 4th of July parade through downtown Elko on Saturday morning that will include dantzaris, musicians, athletes, Basque-American artists to name a few.
On Saturday afternoon, there will be dance performances, herri kirolak, music, song, reunions, and much more. Saturday night there will be a public dance at the Basque club. Sunday will begin with mass celebrated by Basque chaplain, Aita Antton, from Boise followed by the picnic, more dancing, herri kirolak, booths, contests, raffles etc.
In Chino, the Southern California Basque Club Picnic
On Sunday, the Southern California Basque Club will celebrate its 73rd annual Basque Picnic at the local Fairgrounds. The events will begin with mass in Euskera celebrated by Fr. Javier Altuna, from Azpeitia, followed by a BBQ, dance and music performances and a public dance that evening to the sounds of the Jean Flesher orchestra.
