After its presentation at the Donostia Film Festival, the documentary will be shown this Monday in Boise and San Francisco at their respective Basque clubs.  In Argentina, the film will debut on Saturday, November 11th in San Nicolas at the main day of Semana Vasca. The film is being presented there by angel Oiarbide from Gure Esku Dago during the event entitled, “People, Towns, Rights,” to later begin its tour of various Basque clubs across the country as part of the Traveling Basque Film initiative.

San Nicolas, Argentina.   The documentary Elkarrekin-Together tells the story of a group of Basque archaeologists to an island in Maine.  In 100 minutes the chronicle gives the account of the relationship, centuries ago, between Basque whalers who came to these shores, and the original inhabitants there.  The story pursues an objective, above all, if it is evidence that another world may be possible, that of coexistence and cooperation over that of domination, if so then it would be proof that another world is possible, according to its authors.

Starring Xabier Agote, president of Albaola, and directed by Miguel Molina, Pablo Iraburu and Igor Otxoa, Elkarrekin-Tegether debuted on September 26 a the Donostia Film Festival where it was very well received.  Now it is begin presented in the Diaspora. In communities like Boise, Idaho and San Francisco, California, you are invited to attend the screening at either the Basque Center in Boise or the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center.

In South America, the documentary will debut on November 11th on the main day of the Semana Nacional Vasco Argentina 2017 in San Nicolas.  The event will begin at 15hs in the Municipal Auditorium, and will also be attended by Angel Oiarbide, a reference of the Gure Esku Dago movement.

Looking towards the Diaspora

Besides telling the story of the expedition Elkarrekin-Together also reflects how the Basque dispersed around the world throughout history.  That is why its authors stress that the documentary is also a call to “build bridges,” between Euskal Herria and its Diaspora.  In the words of Oiarbide, “the Basque Diaspora is the largest embassy that we have outside of the Basque Country.  In an active community with millions of Basque people that have continued to contemplate the homeland of their ancestors, showing their pride in their origin and their last names synonymous with hard work, honesty and progress.  Centuries of maritime history from the Basque Country have made the Diaspora extend all over the word.  Now it is up to Euskal Herria to look outside and begin to build bridges.  This is the reason and the point behind the name of the project.”

“Elkarrekin-Together” tour

After Semana Vasca, Elkarrekin-Together will be made shown in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, November 14 at 7pm at Euskaltzaleak (Bernardo de Irigoyen 826).  As indicated to EuskalKultura.com by the Gure Esku Dago representative, it will also be shown in La Plata and in Montevideo, Uruguay although these are both TBD.  This is only the beginning of the film’s tour in Argentina since it will now become part of the Traveling Basque Film initiative coordinated by Carlos Gabilondo in several Basque clubs across the country.
